Phenogenetic Studies on Scute-1 of Drosophila Melanogaster. I. the Associations between the Bristles and the Effects of Genetic Modifiers and Temperature.

چکیده
This paper deals with the quantitative variations, under different environmental conditions, of the bristle numbers of the mutant scute-1 in Drosophila melanogaster. The genetic factor “scute” was discovered by BRIDGES in 1916 (unpublished). Since 1929, when other alleles of scute were found at the same locus, the original scute has been designated as scute-1. Figure 1 shows the position and nomenclature of the bristles

Concentration dependent effect of morphine, aspirin, capsaicin and chili pepper hydro alcoholic extract on thermal and chemical pain model in fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster)
Introduction: Pain research using animal models is related to ethical concerns, so invertebrates and insects have been recommended by researchers. In the present study, the nociceptive and antinociceptive effects of capsaicin, aspirin, morphine and chili extract were examined using fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) as an alternative for rodent pain model. Methods: Stage 3 of larvae and ad...
متن کاملThe Effects of High Temperature on Bristle Frequencies in Scute and Wild-Type Males of Drosophila Melanogaster.
URING the past twenty-five years there has appeared a considerable D amount of literature concerned with temperature-effective period studies on mutant races of Drosophila melanogaster. Adult characters which have drawn the most attention have been the compound eye, the wing, and the bristles. Most of the work on the eye has been done with Bar and its alleles (see especially DRIVER 1926 and 193...
متن کاملVariation of scutellar bristles in Drosophila, I. Genetic leakage.
HE number of bristles on the scutellum of Drosophila is characteristically Tfour. Flies occur infrequently which have more or less than four bristles. PAYNE (1918) selected for increase of the number of scutellar bristles, producing, after several generations of selection, flies with many extra scutellars. This showed that there was considerable unexpressed genetic variation for number of scute...
متن کاملAconitase and Developmental EndPointsasEarly IndicatorsofCellularToxicity Induced by Xenobiotics in Drosophila Melanogaster
Background: In this study, the toxicity of the different xenobiotics was tested on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster model system. Methods: Fly larvae were raised on food supplemented with xenobioticsat different concentrations (sodium nitroprusside (0.1-1.5 mM), S-nitrosoglutathione (0.5-4 mM), and potassium ferrocyanide (1 mM)). Emergence of flies, food intake by larvae, and pupation h...
متن کاملTwo or Four Bristles: Functional Evolution of an Enhancer of scute in Drosophilidae
Changes in cis-regulatory sequences are proposed to underlie much of morphological evolution. Yet, little is known about how such modifications translate into phenotypic differences. To address this problem, we focus on the dorsocentral bristles of Drosophilidae. In Drosophila melanogaster, development of these bristles depends on a cis-regulatory element, the dorsocentral enhancer, to activate...
